Vic: Police aim for zero road toll this Easter

Victorian police will aim to make this year the state's first-ever Easter holiday period
without a road death.

Police Acting Assistant Traffic Commissioner BOB HASTINGS says last year four people
died on Victorian roads and as the state has never achieved a toll-free Easter, he is
keen to break the cycle this year.

He says every available police vehicle, including booze buses, motorcycles, unmarked
cars and the police air-wing will be used to increase safety on the state's roads during
Easter.

More than 1,000 State Emergency Services (SES) volunteers and Lions Club members will
staff about 65 Driver Reviver sites around the state, offering free tea and coffee and
an opportunity for drivers to rest.

Transport Accident Commission executive STEPHEN GRANT says many drivers use unfamiliar
roads for long periods of time over the break, and everyone should take care.

Mr GRANT is urging every driver to ensure that they are well rested and well-prepared
for their journeys over Easter, leaving enough time to travel well within the speed limit.
